Day 5 – Shopping and touring in Seattle (9/21/19)

Today we enjoyed our first port, Seattle. We were here in Seattle last year and saw some of the sites so we decided to do a free walking tour of Pike’s Market. We love the European style free walking tours because the guides are always characters. Joe, our guide was excellent sharing the history and some interesting tips about the market. He got us samples of smoked salmon which was awesome and told us the vacuum packs stay fresh without refrigeration for 3 days (was tempted to buy some but we didn’t). Alex got a great picture of the men throwing a 20 lb halibut at the market.

We had lunch at Seatown before doing some shopping to prepare for our next 5 days at sea. We knew from a previous cruise that the beds were quite hard so I ordered a mattress topper online for pickup at the Seattle Macy’s. We also went to Target to buy some more wine and iced tea jar with tea bags so we can have never ending ice tea in our cabin since Alex loves his iced tea. I didn’t expect to get 2 more bottles of wine to our cabin but they didn’t take them so we have 4 bottles of wine for the next few days It’s the simple things for us.

We met some new people in the lounge – Jon, a retired FBI agent, and Carey, from Arkansas, Wendy and Tony from Perth, Joe & Mary from VA Beach, and Pat and Marra from Melbourne. Everyone is quite friendly. We had dinner in the Windjammer buffet to keep it simple which was just ok nothing spectacular. After dinner we went to the headliner, Mark Preston from the Lettermen. Alex lasted a little more than a song but I stayed for the whole show. My mom would have loved it and I knew most of the words because of her playing that music when I was young. We finished the night listening to the Bon Jovi tribute band in Music Hall which was very good but packed so we ended up having to go upstairs. Next time they play we will go earlier so I can dance! Internet is very slow which is why the post is so late today. We’re having trouble uploading pictures to the cloud.
