Recap of our Transpacific Adventure

Thanks for all who followed our blog during our Transpacific Adventure (September 17, 2019 – November 6, 2019). We’ve been home about a week now and life is starting to settle back into something normal. We have largely recovered from the 16 hour time difference. It wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be but still find at times we need a nap at an odd time or wake up at 3 am and can’t fall back asleep. It’s all good and we are grateful for the once in a lifetime trip we were able to enjoy!

I thought I’d start the recap with a few stats:

  • Number of days – 50 (well really 49 due to crossing the date line)
  • Miles Driven – 2,729 – 33+ hours
  • Miles Flown – 13,647 – 4 flights – 28 hours
  • Nautical Miles cruised – Greater than 7,500 (not sure due to medical emergency)
  • Steps taken – 455,100 steps (nearly 10,000 per day but a l
  • Driving on left side – 33% of the world (75 countires) with 25% of roads drive on left side but Alex
  • Photos – approx 2,000 still organizing a bit.
  • Pounds gained – ZERO!!! I came back the exact same weight I left – yeah! Jury is still out for Alex.

Top 10 Highlights:

  1. Day 39 & 40 – Hamilton Island – our favorite place – we will definitely go back. Beautiful landscape everywhere you look in the WhitSundays. Golf was fantastic with views of the ocean from all angles.
  2. Day 49 – Sydney Bridge Climb – while I was scared to death it was a once in a lifetime experience.
  3. Day 36 – Wait A While Night Rainforest Tour (Cairns) – 80% of Australia’s wildlife is nocturnal so a fantastic tour to see animals in their natural habitat. Saw platypus, tree kangaroos, an owl with his catch, possums, bats. Fantastic
  4. Day 11 & 12 – Maui – I thought this would be my favorite until we got to Hamilton Island. Beautiful rainforest, waterfalls and crazy Road to Hana.
  5. Day 31 – Picton / Marlborough wine tour – loved it because they focus on white wines which I like. Their Sauvignon Blanc were different at each winery but I loved them all.
  6. Day 49 – Opera House – an iconic building with architectural details ahead of its time
  7. Day 23 – Moorea / Tahiti – Moorea is a gorgeous island with lush green landscapes
  8. Day 42 – Fraser Island – very remote and undeveloped with white sand beaches for miles.
  9. Day 30 – Wellington – very windy and rainy but great bike tour all around the city.
  10. Day 14 – Oahu – Pearl Harbor for its historic memorial of a day that changed the world

I created a photo gallery of our favorite ~ 100 photos. Check out our Transpacific Photo gallery on the blog. If you’re interested to see all our photos let me know and we can grant you access to our share drive
