Sept 9, 2020 – Ballin’ at Bellagio

Written by Kim

First let me start with a recap of our flights. We took Spirit out of Myrtle with a layover in Philly. Spirit is one of the few airlines running out of Myrtle due to reduced volume. Normally you’ll find United and others as well but we are realizing that most of our flights might be connections since we’re not in a major airport like NY. There are direct flights from Charlotte or Atlanta which are a few hours drive if needed but this works. Our first flight MYR to Philly was packed. We moved from the exit row to hopefully get some space but the flight was nearly full so I was in a middle seat with Alex on the aisle. I had a small panic attack when the guy came to take the open seat in our row but survived the short flight. Everyone was required to wear masks and compliance was very high. We arrived in Philly and got a bite to eat at Chickie and Pete’s and a few drinks to reduce my anxiety. Our next flight was pretty empty and we each had an exit row to ourself plus no one in the exit row behind us. This meant a lot of responsibility opening 2 exit doors if we went down but we were prepared to handle it. 🤪 Luckily we didn’t need to perform our exit row duties. Despite the extra room Spirit seats are pretty uncomfortable so we already splurged for more expensive cushioned seats to come home. An hour flight you can deal with a crappy seat but 5 1/2 hours not so much. Anyhow, no issues with flights or baggage and we arrived in Vegas around midnight (East coast time – 9 pm west coast). They didn’t have the size car we ordered so took a smaller Yaris for a discount but not a car for a long trip. Who makes a car without armrests – hand we become snobs?

View of fountain show from our room

Since Vegas is hurting we were comped 2 nights (of course only mid week). We’ve never stayed at Bellagio and are excited to see what it offers. The girl at the front desk upgraded our room to one in the center facing the fountain so we quickly went upstairs and turned on channel 22 to hear the music and watch the fountain show. Our view was incredible. Very cool. I was tired so decided not to go downstairs to gamble but watched the fountain show a few more times and played Candy Crush for free. If I’m honest I’ll also admit that I needed a break from mask wearing. Alex went to gamble. First night was good he came upstairs up a bit.

Sunrise over Vegas

Got up early because our body clock is still on East coast time so we decided to drive to Black Bear Diner a favorite breakfast spot of ours. I love that you can get avocado in your omelet and their biscuits are incredible.

Since we’re here at Bellagio only 2 nights we decided to rent chairs at the pool to enjoy the facility. We thought it might be busy and chairs are limited but their were plenty of chairs. What a gorgeous view. It was a little windy and the coolest day in Sept only 80 degrees. We ordered up a bucket of 10 beers for $75 and had a nice lunch. It was sunny but not too hot but our bathing suits dried in no time because of the dry heat (unlike SC where it takes forever). We had a great day by the pool despite having to keep our masks on unless we were actively eating or in the pool. The masks are tiring and I have to admit and they are militant about wearing your mask. If they see you without it in over both your nose and mouth they come up to you and watch until you fix it. That is good but basically you have to wear a mask everywhere except when you are in your hotel room or driving in your car. Bellagio gave us a nice Covid is with masks, hand sanitizer and those key things (see below).

We had an amazing dinner at The Mayfair supper club in Bellagio. It was set up like a 1940’s supper club with a 3 piece jazz band, singers and dancers. We had an early reservation because if we didn’t take 5:45 our other choice was 9 which is too late. We had the pre fixe dinner with a starter, main and dessert. The food was fantastic and the view was right by the fountain so we got to see it again.

My coconut shrimp starter served in a half coconut with some remoulade and lime.

We both had filet for our main (no pic I forgot) and a sundae for dessert

We played some pai gow and slots after dinner but called it a night a bit early because we’re a big jet lagged. Had a great day. More tomorrow.
