Early January was a bit busy for us. Alex spent some time at his parents in Tennessee since he dad had some medical issues and I traveled up to NJ for Heather’s baby shower. We decided a getaway to Florida for a little sun and golf was in order. Alex drove down from TN and I flew in from NJ. We met up for a few nights at Hard Rock Seminole. We got to stay in the new guitar hotel which was very nice and reminded me a lot of Borgata. The casino beat us up a bit so off to the beach we went!
We rented an AirBnB 1/2 block from the beach in Hollywood Beach similar to what we did last January. We chose a different apartment from the same owner a few blocks away. The apartment was on Minnesota Avenue and was small but adequate for our needs and very clean. We spent our week here taking walks on the broad walk (yes that’s what they call it not a typo), enjoying the beach, going to outdoor restaurants and relaxing. We were on vacation from retirement. It wasn’t very crowded and people were wearing masks inside and social distancing.
The south Florida beaches sure provide some people watching entertainment. Lots of thongs and butts on some who deserve to show off their goods while others must not have a mirror in their home. We helped out some young guys by lending them our bottle opener to open their beers and recovered an umbrella cover that was blowing away for someone. Saw a few people bring kittens down to the ocean – don’t these idiots know cats don’t like water??? Enjoyed watching a 10 week old Golden Retriever dig in the sand to make a cool spot for a nap and teenagers make a Tik Tok dance video. Lots of fun.
I spent some more time learning about the number of carbs in food to continue managing my glucose levels to keep my diabetes under control. I must admit I’m quite nervous when we travel because i want to ensure I can manage my health both my bowels and diabetes but things went pretty well – I’m learning. I was quite surprised to learn that I could have a beer – Corona Premier has only 2.6 carbs and tastes just like regular Corona. Had to buy a new can cooler to fit the tall skinny can. Also, learned that small Rita’s gelati with sugar free ice is only 22 carbs. My glucose level was lowest the night after I have 2 Tito’s and soda so maybe alcohol is the ticket. Lol – only kidding.
We enjoyed dinner at GG’s Waterfront a favorite seafood restaurant down here. It never disappoints!
We also found a new city center like area at Dania Beach with some good restaurants we will certainly come back to. We had a great crab salad and tacos for lunch at Tommy Bahamas grill (sorry no picture). Our last night we went to Oceans One Grill and found great food and really cheap drinks (3 for $10 for Ketel One, martinis or lots of other liquors) for half the price of GGs.
We enjoyed our stay at the beach now we will head north a bit to Palm Beach Gardens for Alex to join the Formy Irish Open with the Golf Club of NJ. Until then….
