Jan 2022 – Day 6 & 7 – Palm Beach Gardens

Written by Kim

Well….we’re away for a few weeks so it can’t be all party the last few days I had to do some errands. Took my car to Audi for an oil change since I couldn’t get an appointment in Wilmington until end of Feb. it was a huge dealership but even with an appointment I waited nearly 3 hours for an oil change. Ugh! It was a bit sad because I had to sign the paper stating my mileage of 70,000 + is out of warranty. I was tempted to go look at the new models which is probably why they do that but I controlled myself. After all we drove our A6 until it had 275,000 miles on it. There lots of life left in the Q5

I had an exciting afternoon at the laundromat. In all honesty I was in my happy place and wanted to volunteer to help the attendants while I was there. I would have to learn Spanish if I worked there because I think I was the only one speaking English.

Alex golfed pretty well on the first day of the tournament. He is tied for 3rd place but had a crazy round with a bunch of double bogeys and birdies but few pars. Just crazy golf. Dinner was with our friend, Jose, at Carmines. Having dinner with our good friends in this area is one of the treats of this golf tournament for me. We actually ate at this same restaurant with Jose and Leonora (his wife) 6 years ago to the day. Unfortunately Leonora passed away a few years ago so Jose is alone now but he’s doing well. Jose is such a special friend I met while working at J&J.

We ended the night with a nightcap out by the pool with our crazy golf friends. There was lots of storytelling and belly laughs.

Friday was a quiet day so I took a long walk down PGA boulevard. I gained about 20 pounds over the holidays so really need to work to drop it. My glucose is up and I went back on diabetes meds. We’re trying glipizide this time but it doesn’t seem to be having an impact. I’m not happy I slid backward and motivated to get back on track. My challenge is trying to find the balance between enjoying life, keeping my weight under control and sugar at the right level. I’ve come to grips with taking meds if they help but need to figure out how to enjoy my drinks but not gain weight. Ugh. The never ending battle but I’ll figure it out.

Dinner tonight was with Liz and Bruce at J Alexander. I was bad with food pics and completely forgot. It’s always fantastic to catch up with Liz and Bruce. I’ve know Liz for about 35 years. We worked together at Roche – Liz planned my baby shower for Heather and almost saw her delivery when my water broke in the office. Lol. It’s amazing how you can reconnect without any hesitation even though we don’t see each other as often these days.

We enjoyed a nightcap and lots of laughs with the golfers by the pool. Alex golfed well today and is tied for first place now in the tournament. Go Alex!

I was supposed to fly to NJ on Saturday but changed my flight to Sunday due to snow storm coming Friday night luckily I did because it’s snowing like crazy. I was supposed to be in NJ to babysit for Lux while Heather went on a business trip but that was cancelled. Heather was laid off but already has an offer for another job with better pay and more room for advancement. She may start this week but will need to go into the office. She’s been working remote since Lux was born so their routine is changing. My sister in law, Karen, will watch Lux but Heather will need to get organized to get out in the morning and into the office on time. God is good as this change appears to be a blessing in disguise.

Until tomorrow ….
