Feb 2022 – Back at sea on Oasis

Written by Kim

We embarked on Oasis of the Seas Sunday afternoon for a Rudie’s cruise with Brian Christopher, a slot guy Alex watches on You Tube. We’ve been to several events now with the Rudie’s fan club so it’s nice to catch up with friends we’ve met previously and meet new people. It was so nice to walk that gangway after 2 years without a cruise. We were on one of the last cruises before Covid hit in 2020.

It was a crazy embarkation day for us. Normally we just drive to the port and get on the ship early but we had lots to do this morning. I lost my Fitbit at the beach on Saturday so Alex bought me an iWatch with his Hard Rock winnings. Some of you know i like to watch my steps and set goals. So far I’m enjoying watching my rings close – it’s the little things. We had to go to the laundromat and do laundry since we’ve been gone 2 weeks. While we were doing laundry Alex noticed a nail place next door. My nails were a mess so I got them done while Alex managed the laundry. After all of this we finally started toward the port. We parked in a parking garage downtown because it was $7 a day vs $21 at the port so even with the cost of an Uber or Cab was cheaper. There was a marathon downtown so traffic was nuts. Our Uber driver wasn’t familiar with the port and made a wrong turn. He stopped to ask a policeman at the port how to go and he said follow me. We had a police escort to board and were in the ship swiftly at 2:30 after clearing check in. After dropping our bags in our room we headed to Park Cafe for some lunch

Lunch at Park Cafe – roast beef sandwiches weren’t very good too fatty but salad was delicious

We roamed around the ship for a bit before joining the Rudie’s welcome party. We enjoyed some drinks, chatting with other Rudie’s and snacks in Blaze. Dinner was at 150 Central Park. We had never been there but the food was very good. We started with their signature Urban Cucumber Martini which was delicious. Our appetizers were beet and goat cheese salad for me, scallops for Alex, and pork belly we shared to just taste. We both had tenderloin for our main. The struggle with cruising is we usually have more red meat then we eat at home so walking in the morning is key! We had peanut butter torte for dessert which was disappointing but small so we just tasted.

Day 2 was at Coco Cay. Before disembarking we walked the track. We love Oasis class ships because the track is on deck 5 not the pool deck so it’s quiet with just walkers or runners and no clueless people trying to find the perfect lounge chair. The views of Coco Cay were beautiful from the track.

We had a great day at Coco Cay. Royal made some fantastic investments to improve the experience. There is so much to do like the water park or ballon – Up and Away. We like South Beach which is a little quieter on the right side of the island. We found ourselves some lounge chairs and lotioned up. We enjoy swimming out to the floating bar for a few cocktails throughout the day. We had lunch at the snack shack. Alex’s burger and my chicken sandwich were just ok but the Greek salad was delicious.

They did a beautiful job of the improvements at Coco Cay. We stayed at South Beach all day but took a walk to check out the pools prior to boarding the ship

We enjoyed a few Red Stripes and listened to some live music at Captain Jacks. before getting back onboard. We talked to the musician. He actually lives on the island where Coco Cay is. It’s actually called Little Stirrup Bay, Bahamas. Only 450 people live there.

We had a very unhealthy dinner of wings and onion rings at Playmakers before playing a bit in the casino. We’re not doing well in the casino but we’re playing with the money Alex won at Hard Rock so we’re not going broke.

Wings – too many we didn’t finish them but I wanted buffalo and Alex wanted jerk

Our room steward, Randy, left us a towel animal. It was really cute maybe an aardvark?

Sorry it took me so long to post. I’ve been working on this post for 2 days and it’s been painful. The internet is really slow so probably will only post once more while onboard. We head to Mr Sancho’s at Cozumel tomorrow. Until then….
