In the afternoon of Day 8 we received an announcement from the captain that we needed to shift course to head north toward the Azores for a medical emergency and there was a need for male O negative blood donations. I’ve never heard that gender in blood donation matters but from talk around the ship there were volunteers to help out. About 9 pm we learned that the passenger was successfully evacuated via helicopter. Prayers for the sick passenger.
Our cabin steward, Iwayan, left us lots of great towel animals.
Our last specialty restaurant was Giovanni’s, the Italian. Everything was delicious.
We saw a few more shows. The Two Funny guys came to us straight from Vegas. The twi brothers were pretty funny. The show tonight was a repeat of Pete, the juggler, who we missed the first time and Jennifer Singer who sang some rock.
The last 2 sea days were a little cool so we didn’t sit at the pool. One day we did A Wonderful Race, a adaptation of Amazing Race. We got a list of 15 challenges we had to finish with our team of six running around to different venues in the ship. It was really fun – we had to sing, dance, shoot baskets, get a hole in one in mini golf, fold a towel into a mouse, set a table, name different types of glasses, roll pairs at craps in the casino, etc. we didn’t win but had fun.
Today they had a Music Fest this afternoon in the Aqua theater where all the musicians on the ship who play in various venues came together and each performed about 15 minutes – like a music sampler. At the end they all performed together. All the musicians on this ship are very talented. It’s a bit different than other ships where they all have several months contracts. We’re not sure if it’s a Covid related change but sure brought fantastic performers for all genres.
Tonight was the last formal night where they served lobster – yum!
Tonight we’re going through the Strait of Gibraltar. I was really hoping to see it as the captain described it as one of the busiest channels where there are lots of ships passing in 2 lanes going east & west. It’s too dark so I couldn’t really see much and have to get to sleep for our early port, Malaga Spain tomorrow. Until then….
