Day 14 – Oahu some pineapple and reflections (9/30/19)

Written by Kim

It was a bit of a weird turnaround day between our first and second cruise. A first for us to be on a B2B cruise so none of those disembarkment sad feelings or elation for first day of the cruise but we had to pack (kind of) so we could move rooms. The cabin steward moved all our stuff and we decided to get off early to begin our day. No customs because we did that in Vancouver or Seattle. We rented a car for today and tomorrow to explore Oahu.

Dole Plantation

Our first stop today was the Dole Plantation. I really wanted to go there since I’d never been. It was quite touristy but we rode the Pineapple Express to learn the history of pineapple farming in Hawaii. Had lunch after taking the train which was delicious. Finished our meal with some Dole Whip which we’ve never had. Very yummy!

Pearl Harbor

December 7, 1941 – a day that changed America forever when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. What a somber and sacred memorial for the more than 1,100 men who lost their lives in less than 2 hours. 900 men are buried in the sunken ship because they never made it out. Alex bought our tickets in advance to take the boat to see the USS Arizona memorial and museum. We used individual audio guides that narrated the various exhibits. We are happy we went to pay our respects at the memorial but found this memorial easier to handle then 9/11 I guess partly because it all happened before we were born

The Evening back on the ship

We returned to the ship and freshen up to head to the lounge, organize our specialty restaurant reservations, get our Wow bands reprogrammed for our new cabin and off to My Time dining. Tonight was the first night we’ve been in the dining room since we got onboard 11 nights ago. Our servers, Geronimo and Normandy, both from the Philippines were excellent. We both had escargot which we enjoy. We will definitely go back and ask for Geronimo to serve us. Tonight’s show was a Hawaiian Hula show. I learned some new moves for my hula dance Kamoniwannaleiya that I performed for Alex. Lol. One more day in Hawaii tomorrow before we head back out to sea on the way to French Polynesia. Night all!
