We picked up our rental car on Thursday afternoon to begin packing for our adventure. Just like the Seinfeld episode, they didn’t have the car we ordered, a small SUV like Rav 4, so we got a larger Ford Explorer. It’s nice because it’s more roomy but will cost more in gas. We complained a bit and the guy gave us a half of a tank of gas which is a drop in the bucket. On a positive note, I didn’t have to downsize the number of shoes or other things I was bringing. 😂
It was weird only driving halfway to NJ on our first leg but we’re trying to stick to a rule of 4-6 hours driving per day. Our drive today was 330 miles and 5 hours. We drove through 2 states (my goal is to get pictures of the welcome signs but we will see because I’m pretty bad at it). We didn’t hit hardly any traffic which surprised us since it’s Labor Day weekend.
Along the way I made Alex stop at the Mount Olive Pickle Factory Gift Shop. Every time we pass through Mount Olive I ask to go so it was a perfect first stop on our adventure. The gift shop was less than impressive – basically a small room with a 4 shelf display of various pickles you could buy and some shirts, hats and other stuff. I bought the kids some pickle shirts and 2 jars of unusual pickles. I was happy I got to see it and can now shut up as we pass through in the future. 🤪
When we got to Richmond we grabbed something to eat at The South Railway Taphouse. Food was good and lots of beers on tap but the place was dead I think because it was early about 4 pm. I’ll try to add some food pics for my friends who love them.
We stayed at a Courtyard by Marriott outside of the city and realized there was a brewery across the street so had to try, The Intermission Brewery. Beer was good and they had trivia on the tv so we felt like we were home. We were beat so only stayed a bit.
We’re not rushing on this trip so I went to walk on the treadmill at the gym before we left Richmond. When we came outside to get in our car there was a Q5 from NJ next to it which gave me a flashback since I drive a Q5. Our rental has MN plates “don’t cha know”
Next stop NJ. Since we’re staying with the kids and it’s kind of family time I’ll post again on Tuesday when we start our next leg. Have a great Labor Day Weekend! Until then…
Sounds pretty exciting!
