We were up early as usual. Alex worked to connect to a VPN so he could listen to the Giants who unfortunately lost. It was weird listening to Sunday football at 4 am Monday morning. I was working on catching up on laundry before we headed out to see the rainforest. Our tour included a scenic train to go up the mountain through the rainforest to Kuranda Village. We saw beautiful waterfalls in a few of the gorges as we traveled over switchbacks and through tunnels. The Village had lots of shops and restaurants and a few nature attractions.
We had lunch at Frog’s restaurant which was in the middle of the marketplace that sold some unique things.
After lunch we stopped into Koala World where we met Sebastian (in picture above) And some of his friends.
Our return trip was via the Skyrail. I was a bit nervous but it was a gorgeous 45 minute ride over the canopy of the rainforest. Alex booked us a special car with a glass bottom.
After a short stop back at the apartment where we are always greeted by Rocky we headed out to go to Port Douglas because many of the Aussies we met on the trip said it was a must see. The views as we drove up the coast were breathtaking. The 2 lane road with lots of bends and switchbacks sure tested Alex’s driving on the left side of the road. It was a bit like the road to Hanna but driving on the wrong side of the road in a bigger car with trucks whizzing by on the opposite time. Alex passed the test and now roundabouts are easy peasey. We learned a few new things about driving today. You don’t pass – you overtake. You don’t yield – you give way. Interesting….
We decided to grab a few beers and wings before dinner. The wings were to die for glazed in caramel, coconut and sesame seeds – yum. We had dinner at “On the Inlet” but kept it simple with some prawns and calamari. The prawns were good but not as tasty as we expected; however, the calamari was delicious.
Till tomorrow. G’day mates!
