Got on the road to head to Noosa around 9:00 after a nice breakfast to say goodbye to Hervey Bay. Our drive today was only 2 1/2 hours so we took a few of the tourist drives along the way. Before leaving Hervey Bay we stopped to take a picture of the huge fishing pier. It was so big I had to video to get it all in. Our friend, Larry, would love this pier.

It was my job to get some photos of the interesting road signs – too bad I’m such a bad photographer so missed a few things like the postman that I’ll try to get in future drives.
Since we were in no hurry we pulled off to check out a lookout along the way. It was a nice little hike that provided fantastic views.
We arrived at Seahaven, our hotel on the beach in Noosa, at 2 pm. Noosa is a nice town with lots of shopping and restaurants. Reminds me a bit of Los Olas in Ft Lauderdale but bigger and stores a bit more high end. We grabbed a light lunch in the food court because we were anxious to finally try pies that they sell everywhere. They are like pot pies but with lots of different fillings.
A friend and former colleague, Dave Bowker, from the UK is down in Australia to see his daughter compete in a solar car race so he met up with us for a few days. He just retired too so we shared lots of stories about optimizing our travel logistics to make the most of our retirement. We had a nice dinner but it was early so we wanted to have a few drinks.
We went to a brew pub but after a flight of beers they told us they were out of the beer we wanted (that was a more polite way of kicking us out so they could close). We walked up the street to another bar and that’s where the craziness began. We met an Aussie and told him how disappointed we were that there was no bar / party scene. He proceeded to ask me to try his drink and bought us all a drink. It was really good – rhubarb/ginger gin, egg white, lemon juice, chamboard. Yum. Yes some of you know I’m not “allowed to drink gin” due to a prior drunken experience but did ok with a few of these. Gin is big down here and they have lots of flavored ones and distilleries. Anyhow, we chatted with our new friend, Jason, and exchanged numbers so we can stop and meet him when we get to Brissie (Brisbane) in a few days. After Jason left we had a few beers and a good chat with a Scottish couple who showed up. This was the only place open in this seaside resort town that was hustling and bustling during the day. Evidently they roll up the carpets for everyone to go to bed at 9 (except us of course)
