Day 45 – Halloween in Brisbane (10/31/19)

Written by Kim

Left Noosa and grabbed some breakfast at Moto before getting on the motorway. Food was excellent – thanks Google for the good reviews. Driving was quite different today similar to the US. 4 lane motorway with lots of construction. We listened to most of the World Series on our morning drives. It took us a little over 2 hours so we were in the city around noon. Alex was quite happy that he practiced his left side driving in the country because it was a bit hairy in the city. We weren’t sure where we were parking for our hotel so had to go around the busy city blocks until we figured it out. We parked in city parking underneath a shopping center a bit like Penn Station but only with buses underneath not trains and newer. Halloween is getting more popular in the last few years here. There were a few adults dressed up walking around the city and they said on the news it was the biggest retail revenue ever on decorations and costumes. I’m sad I missed Halloween at home can’t wait to see all the pics of Facebook tomorrow.

Hello Brisbane – Alex found a great overlook for. Selfie with the city
My breakfast avocado smash, lemon marinated feta, bacon crumbles, cherry tomatoes and egg on Turkish toast – it tasted even better than it looks. They are very into avocado here they grow everywhere.
Alex’s burrito – egg, bean, salsa, bacon, avocadi
My flat white – basically a cross between a latte and cappuccino- less milk and more coffee than a latte – smaller than a cap
Listening to Howard Stern and World Series on Sirius
Finally a picture of the post man

We checked into our room at The Trasury Casino a bit early but it was ready. We went to the hotel which is across the square from the casino but learned our room was on top of the casino so the bell hop took us over. We splurged a bit (about $230 a night) and got a suite which is quite sweet. We have a corner room with 18 foot ceilings and 6 huge windows with drapes. The room is over 1000 sq feet with a separate dressing room, sitting area, bedroom and bath. We’ve already decided we’re ordering room service for breakfast (which actually isn’t much more than a restaurant with no tips or service charges).

We met Dave for dinner and went across the bridge to South Bank where there is a performing arts center and lots of restaurants and bars. We chose James Squire Brewery because we’ve been drinking their beer and like it. Sorry friends no food pictures of dinner I guess we were hungry and i forgot.

My ribs were yummy – you’ll have to believe me

The city looks beautiful at night. After dinner we tried our luck at the casino and both hit on slots. We’ve almost recovered the cost of the room. Let’s see if we have the same luck tomorrow.

The construction cranes building the new casino next door.

Tomorrow a cruise ship is in Brisbane so lots of tours are booked up so we are planning to do our own brewery tour. We will Uber over to XXXX brewery then hit another one in that same area.
