Despite the cold, rainy, windy day we had lots of fun in Wellington. It was difficult to see the full beauty but we did our best to make lemonade from lemons. We took an electric bike tour today. Surprisingly, it was only Alex and I with our guide Jim and a guide in training, Hannah. It was a 4 hour bike ride along the beautiful coast and up some of the hills to see the city. Wellington reminded us of several cities we’ve visited. There were hills & houses similar to San Francisco, path along the water like Lakeshore Drive & lots of wind like Chicago, and city was similar to Vancouver. The electric bikes were cool. You still had to pedal but you could get a boost (4 levels) of assistance when needed. They gave me the fancy one that was like an automatic car which required no gear shifting but Alex needed to manage shifting gears along with adjusting the electric boost when needed. I did pretty good except for the moment where in took out a traffic cone in a road construction area (I managed not to fall…yeah!). I had a minor panic attack on the narrow gravel trail going up a big hill and got a fantastic facial from the pelting rain and wind during most of our ride.
After our ride we enjoyed a few steins of beer with our lunch at the Hofbrau house. We worked hard so earned it! Then we went off to find a nail salon for me to get my nails done. Took us 2 salons to find one that did gel not acrylics. The Japanese girl did a nice job on my nails. Alex enjoyed a few beers at an Irish pub while waiting for me to get my nails done. We caught the shuttle bus back to the ship and arrived at 4:28 just in time for all aboard 4:30. Phew!
Freshened up and took our wet clothes off to head to the lounge for some more stories and laughs with our friends. Dinner tonight was at Chops and we called it an early night because we are beat.
As I write it’s 11:30 pm Wednesday for us but in NJ you’re still sleeping on Tuesday night so I’m giving you a glimpse into the future. Lol. We’re in Picton tomorrow taking a wine tour of Marlborough 🍷🍷🍷
Love your posts Kim! What a wonderful trip’ thanks for sharing with us!
