Day 44 – Noosa National Park (10/30/19)

Written by Alex

Today was a pretty quiet day in Noosa. As we have driven south we are noticing the temperatures cooling off (it’s springtime here in Australia). Today was nice with a high around 74F/23C. We decided to walk along the beach and then up into Noosa National Park, which is located just south of the strip of beach here.

Along the way we saw the kids in their lifeguard classes. We heard this was part of the school curriculum here and it was interesting to see the kids all running drills.

The walk up to the park was somewhat uphill but not too tough. They have a beautiful wooden walkway along the road that leads up to the park entrance. Very well done.

We have noticed how well used walkways like these are used by Australians – and the parks too. So many people walk a lot and with their kids in tow – some of them walking in bare feet or flip-flops (called thongs here). When we reached the park we decided we would try to get out to Dolphin Point. It turned out to be a good spot to turn around, about 1-1/2 miles from our hotel. We saw a statue of “Harrold”, a koala that was apparently killed by a dog. Now no dogs are allowed in the park because of interactions with koalas.

Along the way we saw a cove with surfers catching small waves and then a bit further up we saw people looking into the trees – and there it was – a koala in the wild! So cool to see it sleeping up in the fork of a eucalyptus tree! Dolphin Point was pretty so we sat and enjoyed the view for a while – and took our obligatory bad selfie!

Selfie time! 😁

After our hike we went back to the room, had a short rest and then headed to lunch at Betty’s Burgers. This place was very good – the burgers and onion rings were very tasty!

Betty’s Burgers for the win!

We then walked the street and did a little shopping. I got a couple of tee shirts at the Rip Curl store, Kim browsed a bit but didn’t settle on anything she wanted. We then sat at the pool for a while but didn’t go in since it was on the cool side. Dave met up with us and went into the hot tub. But he had to immediately go inside once he got out because it was too chilly!

For dinner we chose to go to Boardwalk Bistro. Kim and I shared a big bowl of paella that was very good, while Dave had a seafood pot pie. We enjoyed the meal a lot – good spot.

After dinner we went for a nightcap at the place we ran into the crazy Aussie last night, Rococo. It was much quieter at the bar this time, so we each had a couple of beers and headed back in a bit earlier. PS – we were not drinking Stella – they put our local 4 Pines Ale in a Stella glass.

Cheers from Dave, Kim and Alex!!!

Tomorrow it’s back on the road as we head to Brisbane! Cheers for now mates!
