Day 46 – Brisbane brewery bouncing (11/1/19)

Written by Alex

Today we decided we would do a tour of a few of Brisbane’s breweries. Brisbane is home to one of Australia’s largest beer makers, XXXX (Four X, not Quatro Equis!). They run tours daily, so we signed up to go on their 11am tour.

When we woke up we ordered room service to take advantage of spending time in this amazing room. We hardly ever stay in rooms this nice and we even less often would order room service, but we hit for a few bucks on slots last night so what the heck? We both got omelets and toast – everything was yummy!

We met Dave downstairs at 10:30 (of course he would want to go beer touring) and grabbed an Uber to XXXX. When we arrived, we were outfitted with safety vests and glasses. I thought I was back at work ready to go out on a construction project! Our tour guide Dan was funny and informative. We’ve been on other brewery tours before and this was pretty typical of them all, although a little bit bigger and more polished than some of the craft breweries we’ve seen.

We were taking the tour along with a group of about 15 older people (yes, older than even US!). When the tour was finished, Dan had trays of small glasses to pour different types of XXXX beer into. Each round there were more and more glasses not being consumed by the old gang, so Dan kept bringing them to us to finish off. We probably had about 20 samples of beer each! Good times!

After the tour we ate at the XXXX brew house. The food was good there. I had a chicken parmie while Kim went for the grilled chicken sandwich and Dave had a seafood pizza.

Our next stop was an Uber to Newstead brewery. Here we each just had a pint and then we moved on. The beer was ok but not two-pint worthy. Our last stop was Green Beacon brewery, which was a short walk from Newstead. I liked the beer here better but we were done after and pint here also.

Once back to the hotel we played a few slots and then took a rest. Kim wasn’t sure about dinner but later decided she was a bit hungry so we went and split a lasagna and calamari at a restaurant next door to the casino, Milano.

We then played a couple more slots and decided we were done while we still had a small profit. As we were ready to go, I remembered that I had a $25 match play ticket they had given me when we signed up for their player’s card. So we found a roulette table and bought in for $100. I put $25 on the match play ticket on Red and it won! So the dealer paid $50 and gave me that, my original $25 bet and the ticket back. I asked him if I get the ticket back because at home they take the ticket whether you win or lose. He said yes, I keep it until I lose it! Ok then, let’s put it back on Red then… and boom… Red! Another $50 win. Ok, let’s go to Black…. Black hits – three times in a row… another $150! Then we missed on the 6th spin, so Kim pocketed the $250 and I continued to play with the other $75 I had left when I bought in. We started playing our anniversary numbers 6-29-10 for $5 each and proceeded to hit two of the next four spins for $175 each time! We cashed out for $600, a $500 profit in about 15 minutes! An amazingly lucky way to end our stay at Treasury! We could take no pics in the casino, but here’s a nice view at our room… what the heck are we going to do with all this Aussie cash?? I know, real first world problem right?? I’m certain we will manage.

On the road tomorrow to see our cruise friends Ian and Debbie and then on to stay at Coffs Harbour on our way to Sydney. Until then, cheers!
