Fleeing February NJ Cold – Part 3a

Written by Kim

Ok so much for the 4 part series. I guess it will really be 6 parts. I’m trying to keep the posts simple for a quick read as i know no one has lots of time to read about our adventures. Part 3 takes us to the Caribbean on Oasis of the Seas out of Miami. Sunday morning we packed up the car, said goodbye to our cute little apartment in Hollywood and set off to a Miami. Alex found us parking in a garage downtown a few minutes from the port for $6.50 a day which is a lot cheaper than the $20 a day they charge at the port. That’s a few Coronas so we gave it a try. We didn’t immediately find it somehow Google maps sent us to the wrong place but after a few minutes we were parked and waiting for our Uber to take us to port. The Uber was $7 so still a pretty significant savings for 7 nights. We were onboard the beautiful amplified Oasis in a matter of minutes before 11 am with the smooth checkin process . We immediately went to Giovanni’s to make reservations for our 3 night specialty dining. There was no one on line so we were able to get the day and time we wanted for Giovanni’s, Chops and Izumi. Since we were at Central Park we decided to grab some lunch at Park Cafe. We love their salads and little roast beef sandwiches (beef was a little fatty and not the best will have to try later in the week). Grabbed a few Heinekens since we scored the $18 a day drink package error RCC made on their website. I can tell you already they are losing money this week on us. 🙄. We explored the new Lime & Coconut bar on the pool deck before the muster drill and sail away at 4:30. After muster and sail away on the pool deck, we joined the Rudie’s sailaway party to meet the people cruising with Brian Christoper, a You Tube slot guy. Dinner night 1 was at Giovanni’s, the Italian specialty restaurant. Food was ok but not great like the original specialty restaurant, Portofino, from years ago. We made a small donation in the casino before having a nightcap at the Schooner bar and watching the welcome aboard balloon drop in the Promenade.

Day 2 we had breakfast at Johnny Rockets which was slower than you could imagine but probably quicker than waiting in the line to get into the main dining room. We didn’t even consider the Windjammer buffet because we knew that would be a mob scene. After breakfast, we went to the C&A top tier event to hear how many loyalty members were on board. There were lots. We got to see our favorite Pinnacles, Mimi and Walt and I got to chat with Emmy who I talk to online but only briefly met on a prior cruise. Alex joined a slot tournament with the Rudie’s and he’s in first place. Hope he stays there in the finals on Thursday. We spent a little time by the pool but there’s lots of kids onboard so it was mayhem. Formal night tonight so have to get all dressed up. They are bringing us all kinds of treat as of Day 2 we’ve gotten 2 plates of cookies, chocolate covered strawberries and 10 bottles of water along with our normal complimentary beer and towels. We never get all of this. But also day 2 and we still haven’t met our room steward. Times have changed. We left her a note and got a response but no sight of Maria

Super Mario telling us about his decision to live on a cruise ship back in 1997 – he has 8,000 days aboard or something insane like that
All the goodies they are bringing us

Day 3 we went to Labadee. Had breakfast in Solarium and got off ship about 9:30. Needed some Tylenol and Tums after a long night last night. We met a nice couple, Don and Julia, from LA (Lower Alabama or really Pensacola Florida) last night so missed our show. We chatted for a few hours, danced a bit and drank a bit and had lots of fun. Hope to see them again. This is the part of cruising we love meeting fun people. We enjoyed listening to the excellent house band in the Promenade both Tuesday and Wednesday night. Dinner Wednesday was in MDR. The service was better and the French onion soup had onions (special call out to Tony who’s been looking for the I onions!). I went to see Sky while Alex had some time in the casino then we both went to see Frozen, the ice show.

Day 4 – today we are in Jamaica 🇯🇲 but decided not to get off the ship but rather enjoy the quiet pool while everyone else is in port. We just got to pool deck and met a great bar server, Inyoman from Bali, who wants to me to try all kinds of drinks since we have the drink package. Could be trouble. Wish me luck…..to be continued later in the week.
