January 2025 – A few days at Sea on Explorer

Written by Kim

Enjoying the pool

We enjoy relaxing with a few days at sea when we first board a ship. Our first sea day we went to the Top Tier Event to learn how many loyal cruisers were on board. We hard there are about 3,400 passengers on board high is a little over 80% capacity. There are lots of top tier passengers – Pinnacle – 90; D+ 389; D 432 and Super Mario with 11,867 points. For context, we are Diamond Plus D+ with 281 points and will likely never get to Pinnacle which is 700 points.

After the Top Tier I went to watch the parade. Those who’ve cruised with me know I love the parades I’m like a little kid and miss my son being smaller because he loved them too. I just started taking Lux to parades so I hope some of my grands will indulge me.

I had a great view from the casino stairs

We knew the buffet would be crazy because it was not a very nice day out so chose to have lunch in the main dining room. our meals were great. My fish was the best thing I’ve had so far on the ship

Cod with a very tasty caper sauce
Alex’s spaghetti
We enjoyed some time at the pool

When we got back to our cabin there was a towel animal that we can’t quite figure out what it is and some odd sweets.

What might this be?
Interesting sweets

The show tonight was a production show called Invitation to Dance. It was choreographed by Cheryl Burke & Louie Van Amstel from Dancing with the Stars. I wonder if RCCL has a collaboration with Disney because we also noticed a lot more ESPN channels.

Dinner was in the main dining room and it was very good. We’ve noticed over the years that the MDR quality and servic3 has declined but so far so good. The food was hot and our wait staff team is excellent in My Time Dining so we asked for the same table each night.

My escargot – yum!
We both had chicken cordon blue
My crème brûlée was just ok
Alex asked for sherbet and they said they didn’t have it but the waiter went and found some (we think they took Super Mario’s stash. lol)

We had a night cap at the Tavern bar and met a great bartender, Imede, from Bali who sane John Legends for us.

Alex’s Buffalo Trace and my chocolate martini

Our second day at sea we spent most of the day at the pool after one of my favorite things – walking on deck in the morning.

Nothing is better than this
Even better the wake during your walk
A bird was following us out in the middle of the ocean

The show before dinner was The Nashville Tenors. They were excellent. Dinner was in the MDR again but sorry to say pics are limited – I’m trying!

Tonight was 70s night. Aysy, our cruise director, sure got the crowd engaged.

Our towel animal was a frog.

Tomorrow is our first port, Puerto Limon, Costa Rica, until then….
