March 2026 – 3rd port Martinique

Written by Kim

Martinique

Ok so Martinique has a story for us, We don’t get off the ship here. We were here back in 2015 and we decided we would go to a beach. The island was crowded and it was the first time Quantum docked in Martinique. As you may know, Martinique is a French West Indies island and part of the European Union (but I digress). Anyhow, we took the ferry over to a hotel at the beach where we could rent chairs. It was mayhem but we finally found a single chair and the beach attendant. He told us to wait there while he went to get another chair under a little thatched umbrella. As we were waiting this older French man begins dragging a chair under the umbrella and sits down. Alex tells him that the beach attendant told us that was our spot. The man basically said he didn’t care and Alex exploded saying not very nice things to the guy and all French people basically. He told me let’s go we’re out of here. I’ll never spend a dime in this country. For those of you who know Alex well he has a very long fuse and in all the year# we’ve been together I’ve never seen him explode like that. So…..we never get off the ship in Martinique now.

View from the ship

We took a nice walk on the top deck to start our day. It’s quiet on the ship when it’s in port. Our friends did a tour

Encouraging words along the track
They used to have a trampoline area on this ship but they took it out due to injuries. Now it’s just a hangout place for kids

We spent the day by the pool with a few sun showers during the day.

Pool deck

A crazy thing happened. A guy in the pool lost his wedding ring playing volleyball so everyone was searching for it for a while. Luckily he found it under the stairs by the pool entrance. It must have flown off when he hit the ball.

Dinner was at Izumi, the sushi restaurant. I’m not a huge sushi fan but like the rolls with cooked fish.

Firecracker shrimp rolls for starter were good
Alex’s sashimi – they keep changing what you can have he prefers 2 pieces of each but this time he could only choose 2 fish so he got 4 pieces each of tuna and yellowtail
My champagne lobster rolls on top & half eaten shrimp tempura roll

We went to the show The Book in a theater venue called 270 at the aft of the ship. RCCL description of it is – The Book is an eclectic, unpredictable and epic journey that transports its “readers” to amazing new worlds of mystery and wonder. Powered by our collective imaginations and told in seven extraordinary chapters, this breathtaking journey reminds us that in between the front and back covers of a great book, absolutely anything can happen! Our “readers” are asked to open their minds completely and join their host and guide, the mysterious Librarian, as he turns to page one, chapter one, adventure one. The show included singing, dancing, aerialists, a violinist – it was very creative with top notch production. I enjoyed it.

The librarian
The dancers
The aerialists were fantastic
The computer generated backgrounds were cool

Tomorrow our port is Barbados – until then…….
