May 2020 – Goodbye for now Tidewater

Written by Kim

We had a good first trip to the house and got some essentials straightened out. Our utilities, alarm system and Wifi are all set up. We did some shopping and found a great family owned furniture shop, Waterway Furniture. Donna is great and helped us pick out a sofa, loveseat, chair and sofa table for our living room. We bought a TV at Costco that fits perfectly above our mantle. Our new zero gravity chairs are very comfortable and will be the temporary deck furniture on the upstairs deck by the guest room once we have living room furniture.

Our temporary beach chair set up wasn’t very comfortable
We upgraded our temporary setup to zero gravity chairs that are very comfortable

The stores are open but shopping was a bit stressful. I was very excited to go to Home Goods but ended up in there only a few minutes because they have arrows on the floor to follow and I found that I couldn’t figure out how to shop for what I wanted. Once you passed an aisle you had to go all the way to the other side of the store to return if you followed all the one way arrows. I felt like I was stuck in NYC navigating the one way streets. We did enjoy omelets outside for breakfast at a little diner and lunch outside at Mission BBQ. Eating out and not in our car was a welcome change

We don’t have a lot yet in the new house but I’m sure it will begin to feel more like home with each trip.

We left to drive back home around 8 am. We didn’t really need to think about timing traffic around DC because traffic is pretty non-existent. Well there was some traffic when we hit DC around 3 pm which surprised us. Not normal traffic but heavier than we expected. We dropped some NJ cooties on our trip (there were lots of overhead signs in the interstate reminding us of 14 day quarantine if we are from NY/NJ/CT).

On the way home we purchased a bedroom set over the phone. Donna had given me a bunch of manufacturer’s to review so I sent her an email last night with some of my favorites and she helped us make a selection after a few phone calls. She’s awesome I can see this will be my go to place for furniture – it reminds me if Maiella in Hawthorne although Donna is more helpful from a decorating perspective. When I read reviews for their store I was intrigued because some people love her and some hate her. She’s great – very direct like me and will tell you if she doesn’t like something but first listens to your style. She actually told me she wouldn’t buy a more expensive bedroom set because even though it was nice not worth the price difference from my 2nd choice. I also participated in a conference call for church – just like old times of a teleconference while driving. Lol.

We got home around 6 and we had dinner, unpacked and I was in my PJs by 7:15. We now have to figure out our schedule. The woman who was interested in our house decided she’s not interested so we are working on getting it listed, we have Heather’s wedding at the end of May and a few furniture deliveries in SC soon. We will hopefully go to SC again in early June. Trying for a little longer stay and some golf next time! It’s hard for Alex to sit at the house and stare at the course! 🏌️‍♂️. Until then…..
