Nov 2025 – A few misty days in Merimbula

Written by Kim

Potoroo Palace

We were in Merimbula, a small seaside town on the far south Sapphire Coast of New South Wales, for 3 nights. It was drizzly and rainy most of the time we were here but we did get one afternoon of sunshine. The first day we just relaxed a bit before heading out to listen to some live music and have some eats at a local brewery, Longstocking.

What beers?
A good duo
Some oysters
A pizza
The brewery was a little outdoor complex with shops, coffee shops, ice cream, a garden center, playground and brewery

We wanted to go to Potoroo Palace, a nature preserve, where you can feed kangaroos and emus. Unfortunately it was rainy but we went anyhow.

Kookaburra in the old gum tree – tell me you didn’t just sing the song! https://youtu.be/t3M3hkWpkHw?feature=shared

The kids were enjoying feeding
And so was I
Cockatoo
Alex fed them too
The emu was aggressive
The birds were pretty

We took a drive north (back the way we came to Merimbula) to visit Nooromba on the advice of our friend, Ben, we met on the cruise. We had delicious sandwiches for lunch and finally got to sit outside in the sunshine.

Yum! Love the Turkish bread toasties

On the way back to Merimbula we stopped at a few lookouts.

Long point lookout

We took a short hike to check out Murunna Point’s gorgeous views

Finally some sunshine

Breathtaking
Camel Rock
What a jetty
The water was so blue!
Heading back

For dinner we tried a local place called the RSL. We were intrigued by it and did some research to find that it’s kind of like an upscale VFW for returning soldiers. We were able to get a guest pass and had a delicious dinner. It’s an interesting place with a restaurant, sports bar, sports book and some pokies (aka slot machines).

Some oysters to start
Alex’s schnitzel
My chicken Kiev

We said goodbye to Merimbula this morning and continued south to Mallacoota. Until then….
