April 2024 – Travel to Ft. Lauderdale via Tennessee to board Silhouette

Mom’s house

Our new routine has been to combine trips into a triangle of travel so we drove from Myrtle to Tennessee before heading to Florida for a cruise. The timing lined up so we were able to be with Alex’s mom on her birthday and enjoy dinner in a fantastic restaurant, Mauricio’s, in Cookeville with some family, If you’re ever in the area it’s definitely worth a stop for amazing Italian food. Sorry I forgot to take pictures of our food and mom’s birthday celebration. As we were arriving at mom’s a rainbow appeared across our path. It was a long 9 hour drive with rain on and off so we were delighted to see the rainbow.

While we were in TN we took a few walks. I struggle with my weight and am trying hard to walk more to lose some weight and just get more healthy. I’m not losing much weight but I am determined to stay active regardless. First we walked at Burgess Falls a great park with a beautiful waterfall nearby.

No swimming. Like that was even a thought.

Our next day we walked around the campus of Tennessee Tech, Alex’s Alma mater. Alex enjoyed sharing his memories as we walked and we both got some steps in. It was chilly but very fun. I learned that Alex gained his first love of golf here playing frisbee golf across the campus. Some newer building built over the last 40 years would have impacted their course. But the small building signs that were considered the “holes” still remain.

Mom made a fantastic turkey dinner one night and we enjoyed a few dinners out. We played trivia one night and won 3rd place.

Kit, mom’s three-legged cat, entertains us when we visit. She scampers around, basks in the sun, and loves some petting (but not too much – afterall she’s a cat.

We left mom’s on a chilly but sunny morning to begin making our way south for our cruise. We stopped about halfway in Tifton, GA. We stayed in a new hotel called Spark by Hilton, It was great. A new modern very simple hotel. It was brand new so super clean and very convenient right off the highway. Tonight we will stay at Hard Rock Hollywood. Wish us luck that we win like last time (but not likely twice in a row).

We tried out our car refrigerator that we bought for our road-trip this fall. After a few adjustments I think we found the best way to put it so 8 can reach in for drinks or snacks as we drive. It plugs into our cigarette lighter in the car or an electric plug in a hotel so we won’t need to deal with ice on our longer trips. Our route has taken us on a 21 hour drive to get to Ft Lauderdale but we enjoyed time visiting mom and family so it was well worth it.

Until then….
