January 2024 – Scarlet Lady visits Bimini

Written by Kim

Our favorite bartender, Dewa

We enjoyed our day at Bimini. Bimini is a private beach / pool area for only Virgin guests on a Bahamas island. There are a few pools and a beach. We had a really good bbq lunch with jerk chicken, pulled pork and rice & beans (sorry no pics).

Very windy obligatory ship photo
Quiet before the party

At 1:00 pm the craziness started at the pool. They had a float dance party which was a lot of fun.

Alex’s scored us a float that held 2 drinks
Crazy! Check out the video

We went to the Ship Show. It was a variety show of circus like acrobats, aerialists with an emcee sharing some jokes and a very good band with a great singer. It was a little risqué with some innuendo but not terribly racy. They served dinner but it was awful.

The emcee and dancers

Our last night we had dinner at Extra Virgin, the Italian. The food was good but service was very rushed. Again we got starters before drinks and our courses were all served together. The food wasn’t hot except for my soup. My gelato was melted and Alex’s was hard as a rock. We found this restaurant to be similar to MDR but food slightly better.

Escarole and bean soup
Calamari
Meatballs
Gnocchi – small portion a little too mushy
Tagliatelle bolognese
We split sea bass – also small

Disembarkation was a breeze. You choose a time. Times end at 10:30 which spreads out the morning rush. We enjoyed a calm breakfast in the Galley before heading off. Because it was a short cruise most people did carry off so there were only a few bags to find our bags. We were off the ship and in our car in 15 minutes.

We will write a separate post comparing our cruises on Virgin and RCCL since many have asked for that. Just a few thoughts on our Virgin experience. Embarkation and disembarkation was very simple and stress free. Overall the cruise skews a little younger (able bodied adults, no kids, few older) but we didn’t feel out of place except a few times when we felt like mom and dad and moved on to something else. Food was ok, service in dining needs some help. The Galley is much better than other buffets. We worked hard to drink our way through our $500 bar tab and $700 sailor loot (OBC). We converted sailor loot to cash playing blackjack & slots (you have to lose the promo chips but retain winnings) and walked off $520 in cash. There is no tipping on board which was weird at first but nice. We never saw our room steward or any stewards which was odd but room was clean with towels, etc. The technology in the room is interesting with mood settings that adjust lights, balcony curtains and music. I almost bust a gut with “Let’s get it on” but we didn’t need to try the hangover setting or zen. lol. We would do Virgin again for another 3-4 night but not longer bc too much partying for longer.

Our summary post will come out after we get off Liberty. Gotta go get on board now. Until then….
