We’ve been to Key West several times but don’t mind seeing the same sights over and over. Today we chose a bike tour around the island. Sometimes I worry about hills on bike tours but not here it’s flat as a pancake!

Our tour started right down the street from our cottage and took us about 5 miles. It was hot and sweaty but fun. There were 7 bikers plus our guide, James, who was quite a character.

The people in Key West voted to stop cruise ships from coming to port because their turns in the Gulf are destroying the coral reefs but Governor De Santis overruled their vote. As a compromise the cruise lines only bring one ship, usually a smaller one, into port each day. Each day we are here a different ship is in town. It’s good for tourism but bad for our sea turtles and reefs. Life is a balance.

We rode to see all the tourist attractions – Truman’s Annex, The Little White House, Hemingway House, etc

The island has a unique ecosystem due to flooding and hurricanes that have wreaked havoc over the years.

We ultimately made it to mile marker 0 on Route 1 and the Southernmost point

After cooling off and resting a bit we headed for our private oasis, the pool.

We decided tonight was a good night for happy hour at the Boathouse. It was a great deal – some beers, some apps for $60. Food isn’t cheap here so that’s a bargain,

We sauntered into Sloppy Joe’s for a drink and to listen to some music but the duo, Sloppy Seconds, was not our speed so we headed over to Irish Kevin’s for some Irish beer.

We only had a few apps so felt a little hungry so why not a nightcap or ice cream. Yum!

Life is short so make the most of it. Back to our cottage we went. Until then….
